Chemical / Physical Treatment

Even if the several techniques can be applied as such, they are the main part of a total treatment, for instance as pre-treatment or post-treatment of a biological plant.

In that case, the first step consists in removing the components that could impair the further treatment. This can be done by conventional techniques such as screening, coagulation, flocculation, neutralization, sedimentation, oil and fat removal, buffering, etc.

The addition of non organic reagents (or coagulant), such as iron chloride, poly aluminum chloride, lime and Aluminum sulfate, allows then to remove phosphates, zinc, manganese, heavy metals and even some organic components.

Polymer injection (flocculation) allows to increase the removal efficiency.

As final polishing step, sand filtration or even membrane filtration can be used to remove the residual suspended solids.
